WETEX is organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in line with its vision to become a leading sustainable innovative global corporation.
DEWA was formed on 1 January 1992, by a decree issued by the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to merge the Dubai Electricity Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then. Both organisations were established in 1959 by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, as government-supported bodies to provide reliable supply of electricity and water to the citizens and residents of Dubai.
Since its establishment, DEWA has made many achievements, becoming one of the best utilities in the world, providing world-class services to over 880,000 customers in Dubai. DEWA works tirelessly to build a robust infrastructure to enhance its total production capacity, which is currently 10,200MW of electricity and 470 million gallons of desalinated water per day. DEWA’s achievements and successes have contributed to the UAE’s global competitiveness. The UAE, represented by DEWA, has been ranked first in the world for Getting Electricity, as per the World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2018.
